Chinese Kung Fu -
Choy Lay Fut
'Choy
Lay Fut' kung fu
was founded in 1836 in the Village of 'King Mui' in the 'Sun
Wui' district 'Guangdong' province, by the Han patriot 'Chan
Heung Goon'. 'Chan Heung Goon' was born in 1806, and he
began his martial arts training at a young age first learning 'Hung
Gar Kuen' kung fu from one of his clansman 'Chan Yeun Wu'
for a period of nearly ten years. He then went on to learn from a monk
named 'Lay Yau Shan' with whom he spent several years learning
to master his style ('Lee Gar Kuen'). Later on 'Chan Heunq
Goon' proceeded to 'Law Fu Shan' to spend twelve years with
a monk named 'Choy Fook' from whom he learned all about 'Choy
Fook's style of kung fu. 'Chan Heung Goon' created a new
style by combining what he had learned from his two teachers and
became the founder of 'Choy Lay Fut' kung fu. The title 'Choy
Lay Fut' was in commemoration of his two teachers 'Choy Fook'
and 'Lay Yau Shan'. The last character of the name was meant to
depict the martial art of Buddhist devotees.
