Northern
Chinese Kung Fu
There
are a lot of northern Chinese kung fu styles. Most of the northern
styles are known for their spectacular diversity of leg techniques.
Probably this is due to the geographical situation of China. Because
of the mountains of the north one usualy had well trainend legs. The
south of China is flatter and has a lot of wet and unstable grounds,
that's why the southern Chinese kung fu styles usualy have more of an emphasis on the arm techniques. Herefore the Chinese use the
expression 'Nan Quan, Bei Tuei', meaning 'Fists From The
South, Legs From The North'...
The most famous
school of northern China is of course the Shaolin temple in the Henan
province. To read more about this Kung Fu style, its temple, history,
religion, and life, go to the Shaolin-section in the main menu.
