Technique and Forms - Intro

Forms are called 'Taolu' in Mandarin Chinese ('Tao' = Form / 'Lu' =Path), or 'Kuen Toh' in Cantonese Chinese...

Forms are a very important aspect of kung fu / wushu, and of course the other traditional martial arts !

Forms are the 'ABC' of a martial art / style... In a form one trains the different techniques of a style...

In every form the techniques are combined differently, so that learning a form one doesn't only train the different techniques, but also how to combine the different techniques...

Every technique in a form has one or several applications... to train the applications is very important... itīs not just movements... kung-fu / wushu is a martial art.. not a dance... not just movements !

In the modern wushu forms the emphasis lays more on the physical aspect, and on beautiful and spectacular moves, while in the traditional forms the emphasis lays more on the application of the moves... However, it has all evolved from the same sources, so wether it's modern wushu or traditional kung fu, when used in the right way, it's a lethal art !

In this section we will be placing the different techniques and forms from different styles for comparison.
