Lion Dance (01)

                     

The Lion Dancing tradition dates back thousands of years. According to a legend, a Chinese Emperor had a dream in which he was attacked by demons and saved by a lion. From that dream comes lion dancing. Traditional lion dancers, accompanied by symbols and a drum, dance to scare away demons.

Performing the Lion Dance

Lion dances are unique. What separates the lion dance championship from any other sporting events is its' history, entailing a rich Chinese cultural heritage passed on from generations to generations. No other sporting event has had its' roots tied more deeply to its' custom, tradition and religion than that of the lion dance. The Chinese belief that the power of the lion dance, when performed ritualistically and correctly, would bring about good health and prosperity while keeping evil and negative forces at bay. As such, the lion dance to this day will always be a sacred event...
