In Shaolin kung fu one speaks of the 18 weapons of Shaolin. This is because originaly the warrior monks used 18 weapons. Nowadays the number of weapons used in Shaolin kung fu has well passed the number of 18. However, because of the importance of the number 18 in Buddhism, one still symbolicaly uses the number 18...

The most famous of the Shaolin weapons is of course the stick. There are many legends about the monks defending the temple, and fighting battles with the stick. The fist is also regarded as one of the 18 weapons...
